The above video is a short presentation given by Brett McKay at Ignite Tulsa. In his five-minute Ignite Talk, “The Menaissance: The Death of the Metrosexual and the Rise of the Retrosexual,” McKay discusses the resurgence of manliness in our culture.
If you are interested in “reviving the lost art of manliness,” then I highly recommend that you visit McKay’s blog, The Art of Manliness, and read more.
Do you see the same trends in our culture? Do you agree that the “Rise of the Retrosexual” is positive for our culture?

It would be a stretch to expect anyone to remember "The Life of Riley" or "Fibber McGee and Molly" or "The Honeymooners". The "dumb dad" is nothing new. It predates television and the "Mad Men" era, idealized as some wonderful time when men were men, obsessed with sex and personal appearance, but not in the bad metro-sexual way, and certainly not in a way that would inspire "Cat's in the Cradle". Nostalgia lets you remember the past the way you want, without the inconvenience of historical knowledge. "It was easier for someone else, a long time ago, to be a man." Idealizing a past we haven't personally experienced is an escape from the present.
The rise of the "retro-sexual" is not a trend in our culture. It is our culture.
