God Made This Day for Who?

This morning as I was driving, I heard a brief statement on the radio that bothered me. A man seemed to be encouraging his listeners to go to church and said, “Get up. . .God made this day for you!”

God made this day for me? This is a terribly man-centered way of looking at the world. What if God didn’t make this day for me? What if God made this day for himself, for his own glory? Today is not about me. Today is about my Lord, my Father, my Maker, my Savior.

As Jesus taught, today I will struggle to pick up my cross. Today I will strive to die to self, to my own selfish ambition, that I might live for the praise and glory of His name. If I do this, how can today be about me?

This day was made for so much more – infinitely more.
